Old friends and family

Sometimes seeing old friends with extended family is a great mix. You appreciate everyone for exactly who they are;in fact they bring out the best in every body.
We just heard hip hop for the first time a group called Bavu Blake.
Seeing a live band do hip hop was a new exciting experience for me. I really thought the band and the vocalists worked and listened to each other so skillfully. Hopefully I will post a picture next week.

Winter Solstice

Here it is the longest night of the year. I am filled with a lethargy brought on by cold weather and snow shoveling. Good thing that there are candles to light and songs to sing. We have had snow two days in a row.

Regressing.
Returning to a comfort zone
Exactly what do you think your doing?
Great, when is this assignment due?
Rituals of a weekend.
The second daughter a mother must bury
Nightmares of lost earrings
and kangaroo data.
Long nights
Short Days
Doing push ups on the bathroom floor to stop thinking.
It must be December.

The Sunday of the Sore Throat

On the first Sunday in December I awoke with a sore throat. So I drank tea and had a very quiet Sunday. I listened to a radio program about Miriam Makeba. I was struck by a sense of her voice that reminded me of Nancy LaMott. I also thought about all the people who were important to me, who have died. This sense of loss is one of those ongoing issues that one faces as one ages. Friends, family members, favorite musicians all these people who I took for granted. Now I miss their presence in my life.
I was encouraged by hearing David Garland interview Meredith Monk, who wrote a whole album called "impermanence".
